There
can be no one in the word that has not heard of the Amazon River
system, yet it is still the least explored area of the world, an
area so great the mind can not grasp it's real size.
The tributaries of the Amazon River are countless, with more than
twenty between 620 and 1.860 miles long. There must be many more
waiting to be discovered beneath the immense canopy of rainforest.
The waters of the Amazônia support more than 1.500 species of fish
with more constantly being discovered.
The
rivers in the Amazon Basin, with their beaches, flooded forests,
lagoons, estuaries, islands of aquatic vegetation and rapids are
inhabited by an enormous variety of plants, insects, animals and
small fish. This is the home of the great fresh water predators
such as tucunaré (peacock bass), the matrinxã, the aruanã, the bicuda,
the cachorras (payara), the caparari, the surubim, the dourada,
the jaú, the piraíba, the jatuarana, the jurupoca, the piranha,
the pirapitinga, the pirarara, the tambaqui, the trairão, the pescada,
the corvina and many others.
A fishing day can be extremely productive, fun, and surprising at
the Rain Forest. Even the most experienced anglers will be tested
to their limits after hours of fighting with a giant pirarara.
