The Atlantic rainforest forms a narrow fringed of forest sandwiched between the ocean and the dry uplands of the Planalto. The largest preserved areas are in the Serra do Mar and in the Serra da Mantiqueira. Benefited by favorite conditions - a stable climate free of extreme seasonal variations, severe droughts and long rainy season - this environment has formed one of the world's richest and distinct ecosystems.
