Pantanal
is one of the best locations on Earth for birdwatching, not only
because of its extraordinary birds "repertoire" (650 species), but
also because of the openness of the vegetation, what makes it easy
for wildlife observation.
The diversity of sounds, the beauty of it's vegetation, the colors,
the lightning and the pulsating life, all come together to create
the setting for one of the most wonderful spectacles in the Pantanal:
the coexistence between the hundreds of species living there. The
feverish movement, which agitates the birds, is evidence of the
everyday activities that are decisive for their survival: feeding,
reproduction, nest-building, caring for and defending offspring.
Forests,
grasslands, swamps, rivers, and streams make up the complex Pantanal
ecosystem, which boasts the largest gathering of swamp birds anywhere
on the Globe.
These are examples of some of the birds found in the Pantanal: greater
rhea, undulated tinamou, capped heron, jabiru stork, roseate spoonbill,
black collared hawk, the blue throated piping guan, bare faced curassow,
sungreeb, hyiacinth macaw), pale crested woodpecker, red billed
scythbill, chotoy spinetail, mato grosso antbird, chestnut vented
conebill, ruddy breasted seedeater.
